Scott Bidegain, chairman of the New Mexico Game Commission, has resigned from from the commission, says a news
release from the Department of Game and Fish.
Bidegain’s resignation letter over the weekend said: “I am honored to have served on the commission and as its chair. Unfortunately, I was present during a hunting incident earlier this month that will result in charges being filed shortly. I believe that it is in the best interest of the Commission and the Department that I step down at this time. I think you should be proud to know that throughout this incident, the officers at the Department acted honorably and professionally.”
The Game and Fish news release said department officers filed a misdemeanor charge against Bidegain in Quay County Magistrate Court on Monday, alleging he was was an accessory to the unlawful killing of a cougar.
Karma, Karma, KARMA!

This guy is not only an avid animal killer, but also a rancher, who is on the board of the livestock commission here in New Mexico, and he and is cohorts have quite a history of animal killing. But, is this any surprise? These Game Commissions and Game Depts. are rotten to the core, and have no regard for the wildlife in their alleged “care.” These agencies were set up in the 1900’s to get rid of native animals, so the Livestock/Hunting Industry could hold reign in The West. And they have been doing so every since. We cannot “reform” these institutions, as they view wildlife as “commodities” and “resources,” not as sentient beings who deserve respect and should be protected. They are heads on someone’s wall, and a hunting license in someone’s pocket.
They need to be abolished, with the anti-poaching part of them put into the police force or public safety division of the state. A new government entity for Wildlife Preservation is what is needed. But it will be a hard battle. Are we up for it?
Well put. Would you mind if I quoted you?
Rosemary, you are so right. Few people understand that the mission of state and federal wildlife departments is to “manage” (i.e., manipulate populations) for the benefit of farmers, ranchers, outfitters, and recreational killers. Those of us who do not support manipulation and killing are almost completely — and in some cases, completely — left out of the conversation. I don’t know how it got so ugly and lopsided. The composition of these agencies and boards and commissions is, of course, killers. Should they be abolished? Absolutely. Where do we start? Other than providing public testimony and comments, I don’t know. We need some real savvy strategists on our side.
I’m not at all surprised by Bidegain’s behavior. I bet most of them are just like him. It’s just that this time he got caught.
Yes, Pam, I think this is the challenge we have. One of the problems is that too many so-called “wildlife” groups have consciously become part of the “game” these agencies play, by accepting their terms, their jargon. For instance, I know some of these groups have gotten involved in “The Hunter Conservation Law” and things like “Cougar Smart” programs which “collaborate” with game agencies. When groups do this, they are essentially sanctioning the agencies’ behaviors and policies. I think you know many of the groups I am referring to.
I’ll say it again – I love it each time one of these f*ckers gets nailed!
“Mark Twain once wrote, “Heaven is by favor; if it were by merit your dog would go in and you would stay out. Of all the creatures ever made [man] is the most detestable. Of the entire brood, he is the only one… that possesses malice. He is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain.”

The successor to “I am not a crook” Bidegain will be Thomas “Dickie” Salopek. See the complete official news release at http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/publications/press_releases/documents/2014/021714-Commission-Chairman-Resigns.html
There once was a killer named Bidegain;
As bad as Jim Lane? God forbid again!
But after Jim Lane
Went down the drain,
Of the chair the commission got rid again.
Hello, bythewindsailor! Please, feel free to do so. Always appreciate your comments, too. And, what a great poem–thanks.
