Sept. 22, 2014 – We are pleased to introduce our nationwide campaign to end wildlife killing contests. Our coordinators, Elisabeth and Guy Dicharry are based in Los Lunas, New Mexico, where they spearheaded a local “Stop Coyote Killing Contests” effort that has now expanded into an effort to end wildlife killing contests across the country. We will be updating this page as the campaign progresses.
How the Campaign Began in New Mexico
“Our involvement in opposing wildlife killing contests began as a response to the businesses and commercial organizations who used the federal and state public lands of New Mexico, and Valencia County in particular, as a killing ground. These contests were held to generate publicity for businesses, for entertainment, for winning prizes, and for making a profit. The contestants kill—without any meaningful limits— important and unprotected species such as coyotes and prairie dogs. We are working to bring an end to these events which have nothing in common with regulated, fair chase hunting of game.”

Bravo! These contests are despicable & promote violence & suffering & murder. We need our wildlife for a healthy environment & hunters/poachers are decimating them all around the world. How sick to have killing contests!
We need a focused national effort to get killing contests outlawed. The promoters and contestants use public lands and, with one exception, do not follow the federal special use permit process which requires an environmental assessment of the risk and harm. Here in NM, the promoters are being evasive about when and where they are having their contests. This is an unethical group of people who abuse the wildlife of New Mexico. Wildlife killing contests are happening all over the USA. We must strive to get these killing contests statutorily outlawed.
What a wonderful thing to do. Stop the killing for fun. . .
I’ve heard it said that if you look hard enough there is a bit of good in everyone. When I hear of people killing animals needlessly, having no mercy whatsoever for the pain they inflict upon them, I’m at a loss to think of even one positive attribute that could even be remotely associated with them.
Unless criminal action is taking against these bands of heartless, evil minded individuals, the destruction of our ecosystem will deteriorate at an alarming rate. I apologize to the millions of people who care about and respect life.
Stop killing wild life and help save and protect precious wild life
