URGENT: Deer Trapped at Flooded Game Ranch in Pineville, Louisiana

Jodi_Minion2015-06-10T165323_deeroldpicAllegedly, several deer are trapped in floodwaters at a game ranch in Pineville. Several does and fawns have been seen stuck along a fence line for days, unable to rest or lie down. Water levels are expected to rise several more feet, and these animals are in immediate danger of drowning! Officials have responded but apparently just chased away the does, who quickly returned for their young. In the meantime, we’re told that the game ranch owner is refusing to move the deer, even though other farmers in the area moved their animals to higher land days ago.

Please call or write to the game ranch owner and state agriculture officials and politely ask them to intervene and move the deer to higher ground before they drown:

  1. Sent e-mails asking for a rescue. A group of tule elk in California were allowed to die of dehydration because they were trapped in a fenced area, their pond dried up, and no one brought them any water. The “game ranch owner” is refusing to move them? So is this a canned hunting ranch? There should be consequences of the deer die, although it is such a ranch, the deer will have no chance of escaping either way. Can the human race get anymore disgusting?

  3. Surely if this is a ‘business’, he can be cited for cruelty to animals, or lose his license? I can’t believe something can’t be done – if this man doesn’t have the decency to help the animals and just wants to collect insurance for damage to his ‘property’.

  4. Below is the message I received from Veronica Mosgrove of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry:

“If you are contacting me regarding deer, we have received numerous phone calls and e-mails regarding the deer located in Pineville, La. We appreciate your concern. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) is working with the property owner and other state officials to secure the area and ensure the safety of the animals. The LDAF has been on the scene for several days now. We also have a veterinarian on site. Again, thank you for your concern.”

    I hope she is right!
