wikileaks exposes gov’t knowledge of illegal hunting

There is hypocrisy all around this brutal hunting industry. The US government purports to be horrified at Palmer’s illegal activity, and there is talk of extradition.
What a farce!
Wikileaks documents show that the US government has been well aware all along of the illegal and unethical practices of US hunters in Zimbabwe (and elsewhere in Africa) – and deliberately chose not to act on this knowledge, hoping it would never become public.

  1. The US government has long been in the wildlife killing business and is oriented toward seeing wildlife as renewable recreational killing opportunities (see Wildlife Management Wikipedia) and as objects of pest control. Even our “conservationist” exalted Aldo Leopold saw animals this way. Our deep pocketed African wildlife trophy hunters have no conscience regarding wildlife, so it is up the the rest of society to bring them into check by legal means and public condemnation. Hunters have no or little, sense of right or wrong when it comes to wildlife, or trappers of course, seeing them as objects of profit and recreational killing opportunity or pests, as is the view of our wildlife agencies. So, it is really little surprise that our government has been looking the other way when comes to African wildlife sport killing (aka hunting), poaching, and animal parts import. We, as a total population, need to bring pressures to bear, social and legal, to control our less evolved human elements and to redefine the meaning of conservation, animals as sentient too, and the value of biodiversity, and re-wilding concepts/outlook to the forefront.

  2. I hope so. I’ve read a few headlines about some of the hunting hags out trying to lend support their brutal criminal brethren. I’m not going to bother with them because following what happens to Cecil’s killers is more interesting.

  3. Same with the British Government…. They just released a statement that there needs to be a crack down on trophy and illegal hunting… But this is the same government that wants to cull badgers, poison the bee population with insecticides.. Dig up rural areas for housing hence displacing bird populations and worse of all. They want to lift the ban on Fox hunting so their posh friends can have some “Sport”…… And the Royal Family ( don’t get me started) are prolific Hunting psychos

  4. My wish for this man is that he be banned from hunting in Africa for life. Or in any other country that values its wildlife. Besides the US, Canada still likes to pimp out its wildlife, so they may still welcome him.

  5. Of course the government knows. But the government has to curry favor with foreign countries for whatever we want from them. The safari and hunting clubs are full of wealthy people who give campaign contributions and who pour the money into lobbying. Gun organizations and manufacturers seldom met a chance to sell and use weapons they didn’t like. So the big guns literally and figuratively are lined up to get what they want.

  6. The media is trying to douse the flames from people infuriated by the loss of Cecil with romaticised stories of hunters and their passion for killing animals (didn’t take long did it?), while trying to hammer down how important their actions are. It’s the same thing that happens after school shootings and immoral actions of major religious groups.
Typical PR recovery tactics, trying to keep the status quo.

    • trying to keep the status quo.

Yes, or blatantly trying to make people feel bad for caring about animals and acknowledging their rights, and that people who care about what happened to Cecil do not care about people and their rights. Creating a false dichotomy, when there is not that one-or-the other divide. People can care about both. I’ve seen several articles like this in many big name news sources.
