Conservation officer says bear likely acting defensively to protect cubs

A conservation officer says the grizzly bear (not pictured) is likely defending its cubs.

Terrace-based conservation officer Zane Testawich says authorities have received several calls about the bear, which has two cubs, around the greenbelt of the Kuldo Boulevard extension.
“What’s happening is it’s actually being defensive,” he told Radio Westhost Ayla Ramadan. “When she is protecting her cubs, [charging] is a defensive action she will take.”
Testawich says conservation officers have asked the Village of Kitimaat to mow down vegetation in the greenbelt to remove some of the natural food attracting the bear to the area.
