Wolves may be a necessary part of the ecosystem and their threat to livestock may not be great. But it doesn’t really matter because the anti-wolf group hates them so much. They believe wolves attack people, will grab and eat kids on their way to the school bus, spread disease, kill cattle, and destroy the herds of deer and elk that hunters want for themselves.
With so many people believing that nonsense and not paying attention to reality, it was not fair to bring the wolves back to have them murdered.
Is this another one? Oregon is a mess when it comes to their wildlife protections. I thought I read where WI is going to do away with ‘wolf management’ and is going to let the poachers run amok. I guess they got the idea from OR?
It doesn’t matter that the general population favors having wolves present in the ecosystem. The haters have the passion, the organization, the funding, and the political power structure behind them. Every introduction or dispersal of wolves is followed a trail of dead wolves, the victims of legal and illegal hunting, poaching, trapping, and poisoning. It’s a numbers game with constant counting and culling and “managing,” not ecosystems at work on their own.
