The Caddo Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Barney Burks, 56, from Oil City.

Burks reportedly went fishing on the lake at about 5:00am but didn’t return home when he was supposed to. His wife attempted to find him and contacted another duck hunter that was at Caddo Lake to help find him.

The duck hunter found Burks body in the water but did not find his boat. The sheriff’s office says they attempted to locate the boat Sunday but were forced to stop because the water was too rough. They will attempt to locate it again on Monday. They are unsure if it sunk or drifted away.

At this time, the death is considered accidental. Burks did have on a life jacket.
