On Monday, a rescue operation is underway to help a bear hunting dog trapped on a rock face above Windy Falls in rural Hogback Township, near Gorges State Park.

Chief Carmon West of Lake Toxaway Fire & Rescue says the dog has been stuck for 36 hours, and its owner is fine.

West says rescuers must use a high-angle team to retrieve her.

The command post for the operation is at N.C.-281 South and Brewer Road.

The falls are in a rural area, about an hour on foot from the nearest roads. Rescue crews have have an ATV so responders can ride part of the way.
