CORINNE, Utah, Nov. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah duck hunter was seriously injured Friday afternoon when an “excited” hunting dog caused a shotgun to accidentally discharge.
According to Chief Deputy Dale Ward, Box Elder County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was inside a blind at the Chesapeake Duck Club around 4 p.m. along with a hunting companion and his dog.
Ward said the victim stood up to stretch, prompting the dog to run from the blind.
During the excitement a shotgun was tipped over, causing the weapon to discharge. A single round struck the victim’s left forearm, leading to “a rather substantial injury.”
The wounded man was being taken in a private vehicle to a Brigham City hospital when he and his would-be rescuers were flagged down by a Brigham City ambulance crew.
