Now, advocates are renewing calls to the provincial government to make signage mandatory for traps in locations where children and pets could step in them.

Shasta, an Australian-shepherd mix, was on a walk with her owners on Nov. 23 when she smelled the bait in a body-gripping trap, according to a press release from the Fur Bearers advocacy group.

They were on the Tozzo Creek forest service road, located in the West Kootenay region of B.C.

The trap snapped shut on Shasta’s head. Her owners desperately tried to pry the trap…
