SQUARE BUTTE — A male mountain lion topping 100 pounds was found dead in a trapline near town.

No fines will be issued as trapping the lion was unintentional, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game warden Jim Smolczynski told the River Press.

The warden is trying to get the mountain lion’s hide preserved as an educational item or for a related purpose. A tooth sample will be tested to determine the animal’s age.
