The incident took place Sep. 9. Diederichs was charged in October and booked in the Benton County Jail last week, according to court records and the jail log.

  1. Is the poor cat in someone’s yard such a big deal? Clean up the mess and forget it. Planning a diabolical killing is what a psychopath would do. My neighbors are good about keeping their pets confined, but one had a new dog and until he or she learns his surroundings and is trained, I’m willing to clean up. 🙂

  2. ..am sickened..
    I live in this city..
..nowhere near this twisted serial killer..
    but still..

..am heartened to see at least he is charged with a felony..
    ..’effing psychopath that he is..

    ..can’t he just die instead?

  3. I’m in agreement with harsh penalties for animal cruelty, and for this person. However, it’s also time for animal caretakers to be responsible to protect their animals and the environment from their animals. House cats are an invasive species, and if one wants to have pet cats–I have cats–s/he needs to take responsibility to keep the cats from wandering and hunting. Larry (the cat) is the victim here, caught between despicable people.

“[Diederichs] used live traps in the past to catch the neighbors’ cats and return them. ”

This is no different than the people who live along the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) and call for the death of wild predators that got a pet, and frequently with a statement like “I know it was a cougar because my neighbors have been reporting pets being snatched in the past few days.”

In Washington State an idiot ex-state-Senator lets his sheep wander and trespass. He personally killed three (3) cougars in less than a year for killing his sheep. His lies to WDFW Police also led to a houndsman being held at gunpoint for trespassing on a neighbor’s property while pursuing a cougar that allegedly killed one of the idiot’s sheep. We all need to start taking responsibility to stop the wanton waste of our wildlife, and part of that is to keep our pets and livestock under our control at all times. We all need to pressure legislatures to remove laws that allow killing of wildlife when irresponsible animal caretakers are inconvenienced by their failures of husbandry.
