STAMFORD — Westover Magnet Elementary School was put on a “soft” lockdown while police investigated a call about shots fired from the area of nearby Kosciuszko Park in the very south end of Stamford’s South End.
The shots turned out to be fired by a Northfield, Connecticut man hunting Canadian geese. Capt. Diedrich Hohn said the hunter had the applicable federal, state and weapons permits and was not violating the law. The man was more than 500 feet from any buildings and was pointing his weapon out over Long Island Sound, as required by law.
The season for hunting geese goes on until Feb. 15 and the hunter assured Hohn he would let him know if he returns so they can warn the school. Hohn…
