Whilst loading a recently killed buffalo into the back of his truck, veteran South African hunter Claude Kleynhans was killed when another buffalo caught him by surprise with a lethal charge.
The trophy hunter had been stalking and killing the wildlife of South Africa for three decades but after a long career one of his favourite targets put an end to his exploits.
Kleynhans was with a party hunting buffalo in Limpopo province when the incident occurred. According to a local news source, The Bosveld Review, Claude and some of his companions were loading their recent kill onto the back of their truck when another buffalo from the same herd came charging in goring the hunter in the groin.
The buffalo’s horn severed Claude’s femoral artery, and he died shortly afterwards.

Instant karma too! Just how arrogant and selfish could someone be, to think they have every right to invade this herd.
I don’t think I’ve read a cheerier news story in weeks! Thanks, Jim, for sharing. The true hero in all this is the Cape Buffalo that did the goring. How brave to risk death at the hands of these heavily-armed, over-matched killers to avenge the loss of a herd mate. It’s sad that animal-rights advocates cannot point to a single example of similar courage in a direct action operation having ever been exhibited by human activists.
These are the true risks in hunting. With the decks so heavily weighted in favor of hunters, it’s amazing that these accidents can still happen. People do make mistakes, and no animal is going to give up its life willingly without a fight; just put yourself in their shoes (or hooves).
This man was experienced; just think of all the people out there who go out not knowing their ass from their elbow. I’m thinking about the recent case in MT of the guide and his client from FL, who seem to be a case of exactly what not to do.
