CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – The hunting partner of the man accused of shooting his own dog is speaking out.

Bailey Perez says he won’t forget seeing a 3-year-old yellow lab named “Gypsy” get shot. Her owner, Dustin Coker, worked with Perez, and went duck hunting with him in Carlsbad last month.

During a hunt, he says Coker shot Gypsy out of frustration when Gypsy would not retrieve three ducks.

“I heard a gunshot and a bunch of yelping and I like, spun around real quick and Gypsy was in the water splashing around, swimming in circles with a bunch of blood everywhere,” Perez said.

Perez called the sheriff’s office. Coker is charged with extreme animal cruelty for Gypsy’s death.
