Animal activists and two state senators are urging Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to sign a bill outlawing coyote-killing contests after several piles of discarded coyote carcasses were found this week at an illegal dumping ground in Los Lunas.
Duct tape tags dated Jan. 12 were found on some of the animals’ snouts, indicating they might have been targeted in a coyote-killing contest, according to Elisabeth Dicharry, who was tipped off to two piles of dumped carcasses by a friend who came across them Wednesday and thought they were the bodies of domestic dogs.
