Some talking points:

• HB279 amends Montana statute “87-6-214. Unlawful contest or prize”.to permit awarding prizes or money for hunting and trapping.

HB279 lays the framework for killing contests targeting wolves

• HB279 violates the North American Conservation Model.
• There really is no such thing as a wolf trapping as traps do not discriminate.
• Trappers choose to trap and knowingly inflict indiscriminate suffering. While they profit from the furs they don’t pay for the damages and deaths they cause to non-targeted victims, such as family pets, mountain lions, elk, grizzlies.  HB279 incentives promote more trapping and therefore more non-targeted captures will result.
