WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Warwick Police are conducting an internal review after a Department of Environmental Management (DEM) probe revealed an inhumane method of euthanasia was suggested to a local man by a Warwick animal control officer.

The DEM investigation was prompted by comments made by Warwick activist Rob Cote at a Feb. 25 Warwick City Council meeting. Cote is not facing any charges as the result of the DEM probe, which ultimately found no animals were inhumanely euthanized.

DEM spokesperson Mike Healey said the department has issued a verbal warning to Cote against either relocating trapped animals as he says he did or euthanizing them in the manner he alleged.

“The fact that no euthanizing ultimately took place made that issue moot,” Healey added.
