Animal rights activists say a German CEO is the hunter who killed a rare “big tusk” elephant while on a safari in Zimbabwe earlier this month.

Photos of the dead elephant with its massive tusks — each weighing more than 120 pounds — stretched out in front of him drew outrage from conservationists and the international community at large when they emerged last week.

PETA told The Telegraph that the hunter was Ranier Schorr, founder and CEO of a private equity and asset management company in Berlin. The animal rights organization solicited information from the public that would help to identify the hunter, offering a cash reward in the €1,000 ($1,134) range.
