At around noon on Saturday, officers, as well as the Great Barrington Fire and EMT, responded to a wooded area on Monument Valley Road for a report of a hunting incident.

First responders found Christopher Puntin, 44, of Pittsfield, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He, as well as two other adults and a juvenile, were participating in a youth turkey hunt.

No other injuries were reported.

Preliminary results of the investigation show that the gunshot wound occurred while Puntin was handling a shotgun.

The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

State Police, the Berkshire D.A.’s Office, and Massachusetts Environmental Police are also involved in the investigation.
