The way James Nash recalls it, a bull hippopotamus charged at him out of the Tanzanian brush. It nearly killed him — he fired the last shot with his gun barrel touching it.He killed the animal in self defense, Nash said, and supplied the meat to Maasai families near the Selous Game Reserve.
