One person has been injured in what police believe to be a hunting accident in northern Hawke’s Bay.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to assist paramedics at a rural property in Nuhaka, near Wairoa, around 2.45pm Sunday where a person had sustained serious injuries.

The injured person had been taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital by helicopter.

At 8pm on Sunday night the person was still in a critical condition.

Inquiries were ongoing, but the incident was not being treated as suspicious, police said.
