Course is mandatory for new wolf trappers
Trappers are reminded that Idaho rules require trappers to successfully complete a Wolf Trapper certification course before they can purchase wolf trapping tags.
A wolf trapper certification course will be held in Salmon Saturday, August 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fish and Game office, 99 Highway 93 North.
The course includes both classroom study and hands-on activities followed by a written exam. Topics include wolf biology, behavior and management, trapping and snaring techniques, harvest reporting requirements and proper hide care. Effective equipment, use of diverters to avoid non-target catches, trap-site selection, and how to minimize human scent are also covered.
Space is limited and advanced registration is required by visiting any Fish and Game office or registering online at idfg.idaho.gov/education/wolf-trapper-education-course. Participants must be at least 9 years of age.
