Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg sets sail aboard a zero-emissions boat Wednesday, beginning a two-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean to a United Nations summit in New York City.

The 16-year-old Nobel Peace Prize nominee — whose solo protests outside the Swedish Parliament have inspired #FridaysForFuture school strikes across the globe — has chosen not to fly to highlight air travel’s contributions to the climate crisis. Instead, she opted for what The Associated Press described as “a high-tech but decidedly low-comfort sailboat.”

“By this journey I hope to increase awareness among people,” said Thunberg, “to spread information and communicate the science about what is…

  1. What a wonderful young woman! She knows: The time is now, we cannot wait for any more warnings. We had better enjoy the foods we have, the water we can wash with and drink, the few butterflies and humming birds we may have as visitors, and the air that is still, in some places, breathable.
As for the wild animals, let us work for them now, speaking with Demands & Passion, no mincing words, no apologies. Perhaps some will survive at least for a decade or so, and in some cases a little longer. As for the sell-out wildlife/animals groups who have capitulated and compromised with “Game Management” officials, a special curse is put on them. As for the rest of us, we will Not Back Down, we will fight for the coyotes , wolves, bears, mountain lions, and all the other innocents out there who are just trying to survive on lands that are riddled with human trash, steel traps, m-44’s, compound 1080–and ignorant, barbaric humans with guns. Are we up to it? We’re all gonna die, but we can fight for what is good and green, for those who cannot speak–WE WILL BE THEIR VOICE AND WE WILL NOT BE FEARFUL OF THE ENEMY, for they are truly cowards when they are confronted with ENDLESS PRESSURE APPLIED ENDLESSLY.

Thanks for allowing me to expound. I am really, truly feeling the Immense Urgency of This Time–the other night, the coyotes told me….

  2. Well said.

We will all go down fighting climate change and human destruction it seems.

I had a young male deer in the yard this morning, with velvet, I think a yearling because his antlers were only forked, and it made me think of that article here about the stupid humans idea of killing a deer in velvet as a coup. Not this one, hopefully.

I notice a distinct lack of bumblebees over the summer, not spring, coinciding with (over)spraying for mosquitoes. But the Monarch caterpillars are very big and I hope will go into their chrysalis stage soon, and have a safe migration with all the obstacles they will face. Lots of hummngbirds and fledgling birds too. 🙂
