A mountain lion was killed after it attacked a man inside a park in Colorado earlier this month. He was looking for places to hunt elk in Bighorn Park subdivision near Kremmling when the cougar struck, CBS Denver reports.

The man told Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials that he was attacked about 9 p.m. on Aug. 10. He saw the big cat and walked backwards for about 200 yards until he tripped and fell.

According to the wildlife officials, the cougar pounced and scratched the man’s legs. However, the man grabbed his pocketknife and stabbed the mountain lion before he was able to get away.

Wildlife officials tracked down the mountain lion the next day and killed it. The cat was acting aggressively when officials found it instead of running away. A necropsy revealed the mountain lion only had grass…

  1. You know, why do these articles have to jump to defend the hunter? They always say during one of these kinds of encounters ‘he, she or it did everything right’. We know that humans can never do anything ‘wrong’ when it comes to them and wildlife, so there’s no need to belabor the point. Another one is ‘experienced hunter, hiker, guide, a/h’, fill in the blank, which means absolutely nothing.

A mountain lion acting aggressively is what they do. They are not kitty cats.

  2. Sunset in Kremmling, CO: 8:09 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2019 (MDT).
Help me think this through. Mountain lions are crepuscular, Cougars hunt deer and elk. Did-Everything-Right hunter enters deer, elk, lion habitat around or after dusk. DER hunter encounters another hunter. DER hunter convinces state to kill second hunter. State lauds DER hunter for acumen in entering lion territory while lion is hunting. Humans win another battle in the War on Wildlife. WOW! With more than 10,000 humans for each lion in the US, and about 380 hunters per puma, we should be able to extirpate mountain lions with just a bit more effort. Then humans will have a better chance to meet Lyme’s, help CWD jump species, spread hoof rot, have deer and elk help cattle clear forest undergrowth and starve out pesky beavers, and reduce bird habitat so the birds aren’t crapping on our trucks while we’re in the woods doing everything right. CONservation at its best. MAGA!

  3. But what we fail to realize is that humans have dominion and can do whatever they want. /sarc

There was another story today about an 8-year old boy mauled in CO. I absolutely hate how the national news just fans the flames – ‘this makes three mountain lion attacks this year (so far), and wildlife ‘authorities’ are sounding the alarm!’ *eyeroll*

So traps are set. Although people have more to fear from deranged gunmen, how many have there been this year (so far!)? And several foiled plots too.
