KINGS BEACH, Calif. (NBC News) —Sheriff’s deputies in California came to the rescue of a bear cub who climbed into a dumpster and couldn’t get out.

The cub had crawled into a hotel dumpster for a snack and when the lid fell down, trapping the animal.

Workers in the area called the Placer County Sheriff’s Office when they noticed the cub’s sibling, with the help of its mom, trying to save the other cub.

In video released by the Sheriff’s Office, the cub could be heard crying inside the dumpster.

Once deputies arrived, they lifted the lid to the dumpster, dropped a ladder in and stood back.

Seconds later, the cub climbed out and raced off to be reunited with family.
