Rhode Island Environmental Police said Tuesday that they charged a hunter with baiting deer.

The state Department of Environmental Management says baiting of deer and feeding of cervids is illegal in Rhode Island.

DEM said the charge followed several days of surveillance. The agency posted pictures of the bait on its Facebook page.

The hunter’s name was not released.

A copy of the Rhode Island Hunting and Trapping Regulation Guide is available for download from the DEM website.

DEM said suspected violations can be reported 24 hours a day at 401-222-3070.
