On Interstate 229 right by the 22nd Street exit, there are a lot of trees and brush along the side of the road. It is perfect for deer to remain hidden until they cross.

Deer hunting season is in full swing in northwest Missouri. With the spike in deer activity, it unfortunately results in a peak for deer traffic collisions as well.

“It is that time of the year — the weather is cooling down, so that means deer are on the move,” Sergeant Jake Angle with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

On the Missouri Highway Patrol’s website, the most recent year for updated deer involved accidents is 2017. In that year, there were just above four thousand total crashes. Of those four thousand, four hundred people were injured and seven were killed.
