With hunting season just 10 days away, the House on Tuesday narrowly passed a bill that would repeal Michigan’s ban on baiting deer.

But the bill — HB 4687 — is unlikely to go into effect for this hunting season because it still has to go to the the Senate for consideration.

The bill passed by a vote of 57-49, the bare minimum needed to pass a bill in the House.

The state has banned baiting deer with piles of apples, carrots or feed to lure them to a targeted spot during hunting season.
