The primary hunting season on black bears in Pennsylvania is right around the corner.

New and expanded, early, bear-hunting seasons this fall have propelled the 2019 bear kill almost a third of the way to setting a state record above the current mark of 4,350 bears harvested in 2011, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

With an early archery bear season in selected Wildlife Management Units, 2 new October firearms bear seasons and the first week of a 2-week statewide archery bear season in the books, Pennsylvania hunters have killed 1,540 bears.

The statewide, 4-day, firearms bear season, which the bulk of the Pennsylvania bear harvest occurs each year, will open Saturday, November 23, and 2 extended bear seasons of varying lengths in selected WMUs will begin Saturday, November 30, which is also the first day of the firearms hunting…
