As many of you may have heard, on New Years Day in South Carolina a father and daughter on a “deer drive” were shot and killed by their fellow hunters, who apparently mistook them for them for the deer they were ushering toward waiting riflers. Lieutenant Dennetta G. Dawson of the SC DNR Law Enforcement/ Education division first sent prayers of comfort to the victims’ family, then went on to say that hunters should “positively identify your target before you shoot, [as] shooting at sounds or motion can produce unfortunate results.”
Meanwhile, fewer folks might have gotten wind of the similarly tragic South Carolina hunting accident that happened on Thanksgiving Day—an eight year old boy was shot to death by his father while they were out rabbit hunting.
Perhaps that accidental child-killing didn’t receive the same amount of press since the shooter, the boy’s father, survived that time. Or, perhaps it…
