BRONX, N.Y. – The Wildlife Conservation Society closed down zoos and aquariums citywide last week, and that’s led to some concern about the animals’ welfare.

The Bronx Zoo says it’s getting flooded with questions from concerned New Yorkers.

Zoo officials say essential staff members are caring for the animals “24-7”.

“They rely on us for every aspect of their care. For providing food, cleaning their enclosures, supplying electricity and water. So basically, they rely on us for all their basic needs. And our staff really takes that commitment seriously,” said Bronx Zoo Director Jim Breheny.

The Bronx Zoo says there is a plan in place to ensure animals will be cared for, if there are more disruptions related to COVID-19.
