HAMILTON — Authorities have released the name of a man who died in a weekend hunting accident in the Bitterroot.

Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton says 51-year-old Joseph Burgess of Corvallis died on Saturday morning in an area near Hamilton Heights Road east of Hamilton.

Sheriff Holton says that Burgess died as a result of an accidental gunshot injury sustained when a rifle was discharged inside a vehicle.

  1. At least he departed doing what he loved, making something bleed and die. Let us hope it was not a lead bullet that shattered and made the carcass inedible for the hunting party.
