DOVER The city has suspended its coyote trapping program after two of the animals were caught earlier this month.
The city launched the program after residents complained about coyotes in the 2200 block of N. Walnut Streetand on the soccer fields at the former Krantz Berry Farm. A New Philadelphia man was hired to trap the animals.
Safety Director GerryMroczkowski reported at Monday’s city council meeting that two female coyotes were trapped a day apart, on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11.
According to Ohio law, coyotes cannot be relocated when they are trapped. They must be euthanized.
“No coyotes or coyote tracks have been seen since,” he said.
Mroczkowski said he has also received two reports that a third coyote was struck and killed by a motor vehicle off of Ohio Avenue.
