A New Jersey hunter was discovered beaten and stabbed to death at a Boy Scout campground, authorities said.

Joseph Bottino, 54, of Gloucester Township, left home Wednesday to go hunting but never returned, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

His body was found around 6:30 p.m. on the Pine Hill Scout Reservation, according to Camden County prosecutor’s office.

Bottino’s family told authorities that he visits the area often to go on hunting expeditions.

An autopsy on Thursday determined that his death was a homicide caused by “multiple stab and incised wounds as well as blunt force injuries,” prosecutors said.

The Boy Scouts of America Garden State Council owns the wooded area where Bottino’s body was found and uses it as a campsite.
