DUNBAR, W.Va. —The city of Dunbar has a new mayor. Former Dunbar Police Captain, Scott Elliott was sworn in Wednesday, just over a month after losing his arm in a hunting accident.

After dedicating nearly three decades of service to the city, Elliott is starting a new chapter as mayor.

“It’s been a long time,” Elliott said. “I’m here to support everything in the city of Dunbar and to work hard for the citizens of the city of Dunbar.”

Some of the first issues he wants to tackle are helping the homeless, bring in new business and work to raise property values in the city.

“We’re going to work on the abandon homes problem first,” Elliott said. “Of course, everybody complains about homelessness, but we got to work on the abandon houses and structures…
