Editor’s note: This story originally noted the legislation would include hunting for both deer and bear. In it’s current form, the change would only apply just to deer hunting.)

The final version of New York State budget for the coming year, which could be approved this week, includes a provision lowering the minimum age for hunting deer with a firearm or crossbow from age 14 to 12.

The legislation entails a two-year pilot program that takes effect June 1 and expires Dec. 31, 2023. The change will impact most of the state, excluding Long Island, New York City and Westchester County.https://4d2df21a0d84c1089aed956da047dbbc.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html
