More than two years after the pandemic began, scientists determined that the novel coronavirus likely originated in a wet market in China, where humans regularly came in contact with wild animals.

But in the early stages of the pandemic, only a select few publications openly discussed the links between the use of animals and the spread of zoonotic disease.
