Chamarajanagar: Forest officials on Friday arrested four men who had allegedly hunted deer in the forest region of the district.
The arrested men have been identified as Muttappa, Irfan Baig and Salim of Basappanadoddi village and Venkatesh, who is a resident of Ajipura village.
The forest officials had raided a house in the Vadakehalla forest area of the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary on receiving a tip-off that a deer had been hunted in the area and the hunters were also cooking the meat. The officials confiscated 11 kg meat, a rifle and two-wheelers from the arrested men, who have been remanded in judicial custody by the court.
The investigation team included Regional Forest Officer Praveen Kumar, Deputy Regional Forest Officers Salan and Prasad, Conservators of Forest Parashuram and Anil Kumar and forest guards Ganesh and Prabhu.
