I visited ARNWR several years ago and it was obvious to me what a poor place it is for wolves and how nothing nothing nothing was being done to protect wolves from being hit by cars. It is an absolutely horrible situation and nothing will fix it because no one and no agency is willing to enforce a reasonable speed limit. It is a disgrace that in this country, the only safe place for red wolves is in captivity. This isn’t some third world country that we criticize for failing to protect its wildlife. This is the USA and we can’t even do something as simple as enforcing the law and protecting our own endangered species. I feel sorry for red wolves because no one wants them except in a cage. They should remain in cages unless and until the federal government decides to devote the resources necessary to keep them from being killed by people. The death of this animal is not one more step towards extinction. They are already functionally extinct in the wild.
More dead wolves…..
