Hunting deer with firearms is permitted on both state and private land in Connecticut starting Wednesday and running through Dec. 9, but there are specific conditions hunters must meet in order to do so legally.

There is a daily bag limit of one deer of either sex on state land, and hunting hours are a half-hour before sunrise until sunset.

For bag limits on private land, hunters should visit the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s deer hunting page on the state agency’s website as the types of deer that can be taken varies based on where they are hunted.
Firearms that can be used on state land include 12-, 16- or 20-gauge breech-loading shotguns with single soft alloy projectile ammunition, and rifled or smoothbore barrels.
Shotguns must not be capable of holding more than three shells, and legal muzzleloaders, telescopic sights and shotgun converters are permitted for muzzleloaders.
