It’s that time of year again–sea loins are being branded as we speak. You can read an article by Captain Paul Watson about it Here: http://www.seashepherd.org/commentary-and-editorials/2013/03/15/the-damn-hunger-games-on-the-columbia-river-601
On Friday, May 4, my wife and I stopped at the East Moring Basin on the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon, to see the sea lions who spend the daytime hours hauled out on one of the floating docks there. It’s always a treat to watch their antics and to hear the raucous roaring of competitive bulls mouthing off to anyone who might try to wriggle in and crowd their personal space. As expected we heard bellowing as soon as we arrived, but this time the sea lions had something serious to protest: an unfortunate herd-mate had been trapped and was being held down tightly and tormented by a group of strange and menacing two-leggers wearing orange raingear, one of whom pulled out a hot iron and repeatedly branded the restrained sea lion. As the victim struggled, acrid smoke from his burning flesh drifted for a hundred yards across the harbor.

This says it all:
“What the bureaucrats are doing is not protecting salmon. What they are doing is whoring for votes at the behest of the politicians who want the fishermen’s vote.
And to make matters even more bizarre is the fact that any attempt to interfere with the protection of the Sea Lions or to interfere with the traps will be considered an act of terrorism because of the proximity of the Bonneville Dam. Save a Sea Lion, go to Gitmo!”
I wish the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still would really happen. I’ll never forget one of Keanu Reeve’s lines in the movie:: “If you stay, the planet dies. If you die, the planet has a chance.”
Hey I found this, in case anyone is interested in writing. Tonight I am going to try and formulate a letter that isn’t peppered with obscenities.

I will be right back, being the old granny that I am.. 25+ years into the animal rights warrior battle and now finding these past 2 1/2 years worst of them all. Thanks for shedding light to so many. Because with the video’s and the words and bringing light to the NRA connection and letting people see that killing animals has a point with weapons and mining and earth and so much, has made a huge movement in many causes coming together. Now I need to stop rambling on and getting to my point of this note… I wanted to say..Sea Shepard, I was along-side them when they first started. Back when cattle ranchers were not a bad name to wolves and the world seemed like a better place. Maybe I was young and dillusional.. hoping I was sane..oh well its a nightmare now..towing 5 children that are activists and they all involved in saving a part of the world now, thank goodness, we all make a good team.. BUT, Paul Watson said something, and I use those words as my motto…. need to find that tape… Here is what he said ” I said here we are destroying this incredibly intelligent, socially complex, gentle creature for the purpose of making a weapon meant for the mass extermination of human beings. That’s when it struck me: we were insane. Our entire species has to be insane.” Those words stick with me .. and will always… Thank you…
