Okay, Call Me an Anti

A while back I wrote a post called “Who’s the Real Anti?” wherein I pointed out that hunters are anti-wildlife, anti-wilderness, anti-nature and anti-competition, i.e., they’re anti-cougar, anti-coyote and unquestionably anti-wolf. (At the same time, they’re pro-killing, pro-death, and when it comes right down to it, pro-animal cruelty.)

But after watching the inexplicable rise in popularity of hunting (at least as far as the rapidly-growing number of stupid “reality” T.V. shows, like “Duck Dynasty,” “Swamp People,” “Chasing Tail” or God-only-knows what else, not to mention articles glorifying hunting in every paper or periodical across the country (even the New York Times), I’m ready to admit I’m an all-out anti.

Not only am I anti-hunting, anti-trapping, anti-whaling and anti-sealing, I’m anti any form of bullying that goes on against the innocents—including humans. I am not an apologist for the wanton inhumanity of hunting in the name of sport, pseudo-subsistence or conservation-by-killing. And I’m anti any so-called society that allows or encourages such atrocities.

But although I claim to be a misanthropist, I’m not really across the board anti-human per se. Actually, I’m anti-hate, as well as anti-greed, anti-ignorance, anti-apathy; I’m anti-objectification, anti-manipulation, anti-exploitation, anti-domination, anti- cruelty, anti-brutality; I’m anti-thoughtlessness, anti-selfishness, anti-unkindness, anti-egotism and anti those individuals who regularly exhibit any of these behaviors or embrace these traits.

  1. Wonderfully put, Jim. You want humans to be noble, and you’ll never find that in people who kill the innocent for “joy.”

  2. What is it with television networks showing these stupid reality shows about bumpkins and glorifying killing and exploiting wild animals lately? It is beyond disgusting! All you see anymore on most networks is one braindead reality show after another! Networks like Discovery, Animal Planet, TLC, and The History Channel are supposed to show programs that raise IQ levels not lower them! All you see on these networks and several other TV networks anymore is garbage shows that glorify trapping, torturing, and killing wildlife for profit and entertainment! Then if it isn’t that, the networks show other reality shows of people acting like braindead yuppie idiots or people craving attention for doing ordinary stuff that other people do all the time that they think they should be on TV and get a medal for doing! WTF? It is really sad, disgusting, and disturbing that the media has gone so low and is force feeding this garbage to the masses and our society is suffering for it! Personally, I would love to see a social study experiment conducted to show the negative affects these reality shows are having on our society. I think these braindead reality shows glorifying animal killing and stupidity is dumbing down the masses and I think it is high time we stand up to the networks airing this garbage before they turn us all into braindead idiots and zombies from all this lousy programming they keep airing! One of the best things we can do to put an end to these lousy reality shows that glorify animal killing and stupidity is to boycott the networks that show them. Cut the networks off from their ratings and they will begin to lose money, then we will be able to force them to bring back intelligent programming and entertainment like they used to show before they started showing the garbage they are showing now.

  3. Couldn’t have said it better myself Jim!!! I think it is wonderful how you are exposing these people for who and what they really are! They are no better than serial killers and are only one step from becoming one! Glorifying the murder of innocent animals on T.V. is no better than the sickos that post their animal snuff films on YouTube and Facebook! Our society is completely without remorse, empathy or morals for condoning such behaviors and allowing it to be pushed onto us through networks programming!! They are trying to make us all a bunch of brain dead, complacent, Zombies or Sheep that will allow anything and everything and never fight for our rights and no longer have any sense of morals or decency.

  4. I’m right there beside you and got your back on this. The woods psychos/windegos slaughtered about 100 Coyotes on my land. WTF is wrong with these people? Never mind blow up your tv, put two or three slugs in the engine block of the f***ing poacher’s trucks, diesel engines go for four grand… and those big tires are not cheap either. You can pretty much total their truck before they can slither out of the woods. I’m still pissed about my poor little song dog population. I remember seeing that big heap of little coyotes in a parking lot, on one of the wolf sites, maybe here, too? And all those trucks in the background, man, I just wanted, well, you know… Trickster will play a little joke on them, as Philbert said in Powwow Highway! ( venting, thanks!)
As for tv shows, you own the airways, write to FCC and complain. Go on Ralph Nader’s website, someone will know how to more effectually deal with the violence and killing of animals over the airwaves. One thing for sure, there is no question that the tv violence and what is going on in the woods is monkey see-monkey do.

      • Sorry you had to see that. I suggest we all start taking pictures of suspicious vehicles and get license numbers. Oh and put your local game wardens on speed dial. 🙂

    • Thanks for the excellent advice on how to disable a hunter/trapper/abuser’s vehicle. At least one could exact some significant monetary fine for the crimes they routinely commit against nature with relatively little risk — call it a vigilante tax. True justice would necessitate putting the bullet in something other than their engine block, but at least it’s a start that involves DOING SOMETHING other than perpetual handwringing.

      • Geoff, I could never kill another person. You hit the nail on the head with costing them money, though. And if you don’t want to put yourself in a situation of possibly being sued, you can just let the air out of their tires. I figured out when I was 8 years old, when a big subdevelopment was being built and they were destroying all the animal’s homes, the trees they didn’t bulldoze, had their roots hanging out of an eroding hillside, I had enough. But what to do about it? Then as I was hanging out the wash for my grandmother, the answer came in the form of a broken clothes pin. I took a pocket full of clothes pin springs over to the construction site. I took the caps off the tires, well, innertubes in those days, and bent the spring to the right size with needle-nose pliers and pushed it down on the valve stem, clamped to the outside by the other end. This allowed me to empty all the air from all their tires without having to be standing there for more than a few seconds. You don’t want to be hanging around the guy’s truck too long! Another thing I like is a bucket, square sponge and red paint (oil-based, thinned with alcohol so it dries fast but drips like blood) red tractor paint is cheap. Just think what you want to say in big red, bloody letters, before hand! Oh, yeah, don’t forget the rubber gloves. Pay cash at seperate stores, different days. It’s not a truck, it’s a billboard. If you don’t want to be tracked, glue carpet to cheap sneekers, perhaps we can call this method SSS: Slather, Shovel and Shut-up!
        (For amusement purposes, only) 🙂

      • Want to destroy their engines, all you need is a bag of sugar samsclub carries a 10 pound bag for six bucks. Water in their gas tanks would cause vapor lock they won’t get far ,they have to walk the rest of the way and have their trucks towed they would have to have their tanks drained that means they lose all their gas and have to start all over again.trucks usually have large gas tanks that’s a lot of gas . Two buckets of water will do .

  5. Although I say I am sick of the human race I am not really anti-human either. There is much that is good about us. And beautiful about our human culture. So I can’t embrace the philpsophy of human extinction -although it would seem better for all concerned. But the ugly about us is more popular. More TV worthy..Not only disgusting hunting shows but murder shows fill the program menu. I feel contaminated if I watch TV. We can’t help being born and finding ourselves alive on this weird earth. But what to do about it? Can’t agree with Geoff’s vigilante justice for I am no killer. Would hate to think it would take some horrendous natural disaster-it would give me no pleasure to see mayhem and starvation reducing the human population. I think that is the scenario that will play out however. Some kind of collapse.

  6. I am torn. I was raised by a father who loved taking us out hunting and fishing. I see nothing wrong with hunting deer, elk or moose. I do NOT agree with hunting any other creature on this planet…deer, elk and moose are never going to become extinct or be on any endangered lists..neither will there be any rabbits on that list. Killing for meat is one thing..Killing to be killing is another. I am in love with wolves and I think what is going on with them is atrocious…I wish I could be a wolf…they are not a threat to anything or anyone…when i see the numbers of the dead wolves raising, it makes my blood boil. I chose to follow you because we are in agreement on many things..I wont’ let the few things I disagree with you about stop me from following your words.

    • I’m torn on whether or not to approve you comments, Susan. If you read the “About” page, you’ll see that this blog does not allow comments from hunters or their apologists. There are countless other sites where people can debate the detriments or alleged merits hunting, but this one is reserved for those who advocate for non-humans across the board. You say you love wolves, me too. But I love deer, elk, moose and rabbits just as much.

There are in fact plenty of cases of deer, elk and moose subspecies or local populations going extinct (the Miriams and Eastern elk, the Columbia White-tailed deer in Oregon, to name a few), but species’ population #s are not the focus here. Individual animals should not have to suffer for tradition. Like yours, my father took us fishing–it was one of my favorite pastimes–but when you start to consider the life experience of the targets of a hobby like hunting or fishing, you begin to realize some things are better left to the past. People who hunt nowadays can get by much better without meat. Most are just killing to be killing. My wife and I have been vegan for 15 years and a lot of folks moved beyond meat long before that. I hope if you continue to follow this blog you’ll come to realize that all animal life deserves the respect you have for wolves.

  7. Jim, I am glad you took the time to explain things to Susan M.
    I, too share your opinion.
I’m not vegan but my grandaughter is so I have to be careful when shopping for things like spaghetti sauce or even potato chips that might be cooked in lard. I have celiac disease so my body is also craving proteins. I don’t see how to be totally vegan, with celiac disease. Goat cheese, olives and grapes is my favorite. Sorry if I grossed some folks out. We have some good local farmers markets where I can meet and greet the farmer who made the cheese and visit the farm and see first hand, the care taken of the animals and if they really are operating organic and GMO free. I hope that makes some things clear? I can write more later but I like to support my local organic farmers. I grow berries and fruits and rescue wolves and wolfdogs. Wolf pee keeps pests away from my fruit trees. Wolves will pick berries and eat them. 🙂

      • Yes, Jim, and I get them double checked when I finally get home, by my husband, who is making it hismission in life to grow as much food as he can using heirloom seeds, organically and what I buy must be organic, GMO free, Gluten free and as close to home as possible. Raw honey, in town maple syrup if we don’t tap the trees ourselves, little bit of raw milk for morning cup of coffee. ( sorry, I have to, got bleeding ulcers/polyps in stomach, milk helps) I usedto have my own goats, Sunshine and Moonshine. 🙂 I have enough work with 5 wolfies.
But you are correct, my last trip shopping took 6 hours. I have to rest between stops. I also do not buy anything from any country that eats dogs. China is on the tip-top of my special s*** list for live skinning andlive cooking dogs. They even bake them alive in the oven after skinning them alive. I only hope these wretched people come back to life as dogs in China. There is no Earthly punishment nasty enough for them. When you think of it, all those little breeds of dogs that started in China were probably bred with pig-like bodies and tiny, short legs, to better fit in roasting pans and tiny cages. I recently learned that the reason they skin and cook them alive is their poor little body’s pain and terror response releases chemicals that the Chinese say makes the meat taste better. I pray for their tortured spirits every day and for justice for all animals.

  8. I’m taking in a non wolf rescue. Probably tonight? Poor guy is going in the VA hospital and not coming out. I will keep all of you posted as to Ruffles adoption status. She is all black age 7 and. Spayed! Mostly GSD. I’m not charging a penny to this dying Viet nam era vet. I just asked this friend to bring over her food and crate. My mission is wolves and wolfdogs. But my husband is a viet nam era vet. Just feel like I need to help this vet pass away in peace, not worried about his dog. If anyone would like Ruffles, let me know. Thanks! Mel
