  1. I will never forget my idiot boss and his friends blasting geese, cutting out their livers and throwing their bodies in 55 gallon drums, feathers and all. Their necks and heads hanging over the top of the barrel. No thought whatsoever for the hundred or more lives taken. No thought for me and my family, for whom they only provided shelter, no pay, for managing their tax shelter/horse ranch with 26 horses to care for and train but still had to go get extra work at night, washing dishes because the boss wouldn’t allow us to file paperwork for food stamps. No thought that we had nothing but frybread to eat. I prayed for the spirits of the dead geese. They were decomposing or we would have taken them out, cleaned them and shared with other poor folks.
I may be poor and lamed up but I am blessed not to have the heartless disregard for humans or animals that I witnessed while I was ranch manager for those people! I got an ugly look into what the filthy rich, elitists and their friends were really like. Spare a few enlightened ones, all the people I met in that crowd, were just as bad or worse.
There is only one reason for man to kill off a whole flock of geese and it is to stop a diseased flock from spreading a deadly disease. Geese have flyways like humans have highways. It may seem there is an endless supply. Those who built under a flyway. I have no sympathy for them, just as I would have no sympathy for someone who built a house next to an interstate highway. You can’t fix stupid with laws and regulations. 🙂

  2. Probably not but they don’t care. I’m sure the part about not allowing an employee to get food stamps by refusing to sign rent for work exchange would have gotten him in trouble because getting three employees for the price of a two bedroom over the garage apartment’s rent would be so far below min.wage plus he paid no taxes on us, plus he fired me when his horse broke my foot and I gave him a two week rest doctor note. Bottom line is they don’t care. A business man and a sociopath profile the same. It just depends on how they use their skills. This happened in Denver back in 81 I think? Denver is in a huge flyway for geese. These guy’s I worked for lived on Cherry Hill Rd. I know the whole horse thing was a big tax write-off for them and their friends. It was funny watching their kids screw up. One of them decided it was a good idea to hose down the overheated engine block of his father’s one ton Chevy truck. That didn’t work out like hosing down a hot polo pony and the kid just stood there, confused while his father screamed at him, but the kid was deaf, couldn’t hear a thing….
I do believe the stable boy got drunk in the hot tub with the ranch owner’s seventeen year old daughter and she turned up pregnant in time for prom… I was pissed off at them one day and the farrier said don’t get mad, they are fun to watch, be amused. He then told me about how the boss bought a lame race horse for ten grand that was worth about $400. Bragged all over what a steal he got for it. Then the farrier turns around to so the deaf guy couldn’t read his lips and said for me not to feel bad about them firing me, that everyone he shoes for told him when my boss came around, they all took advantage of him and sold him lame old horses for way too much money. I doubt they would have gotten in trouble for the geese, they set me up by rolling their trash cans full of geese in front of the stairs to my apartment.
