What people are saying about the “Sportsman’s” act…

Dear Congressperson:

‘I oppose S. 1335 (“A bill to protect and enhance opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, and shooting, and for”) because…I want a place to visit free of these murderous barbarians who call themselves ‘sportsmen’ <<< WHAT AN APPALLING JOKE! I want what is LEFT of our dwindling wildlife to have one last vestige of safety from these 19th century serial killers with impunity & the onslaught of an OVERPOPULATED, comatose, indifferent human species invading every last wild habitat with roads, housing and malls! Keep these MURDERERS out of OUR national parks, they have no need to be in there shooting & killing animals in the last place wildlife has any hope of safely existing! Hunting is Americas’ greatest SHAME!’    Sincerely, Stephanie T

  1. I don’t think that people who kill animals can be called “sportsmen”, especially when they are armed, camouflaged, often wound their victims to die bleeding to death, and usually drunk as well.

  2. Everyone PLEASE, take the time to contact your representatives and oppose this horrible bill. WE need everyone to speak for the wildlife. Hunting anywhere does not belong in the 21st century, especially in our national parks, that is insanity! How dare these murderers suggest that they have the ‘right’ to enter our safe havens for wildlife and kill them! What these ‘hunters’ do today cannot even be called hunting, it is sanctioned murdered, nothing more. Just the wording in the bill ‘recreational hunting’ is absurd! Since when did hunting go from a necessity to feed their vermin offspring to a hobby??? Our wildlife belongs to the biosphere, not a minority of psychopaths with weapons and blood lust! I honestly cannot believe the general public would support this madness & unfortunately without their help the wildlife is doomed.

  3. I really don’t see the difference between killing an animal or a human. To me it’s just the same as killing a human being.. We all bleed red and feel pain!! If China treats dogs and cats like this it’s no wonder they also treat each other with the same disdain. It’s fair to say the way a nation treats its animals will reflect the way they treat all living beings. There is a distinctive connection.

  4. In reading the details of the bill, there are dangerous changes being made. Contact your national organizations to get involved and for them to request a NEPA review (environmental review process). Now.

  5. Hunting was acceptable at one time when markets was scarce and people used their shotguns to kill for food. That was it. Today it’s a “sports” for psychopath who continue to use their euphemism of “outdoorsman” “sportmanship” blah blah blah when they spend thousands to dress up as “Rambo” killing wildlife with what has now become more popular, bows and arrow. I been to so many hunting forums and I hear the same “once I shot that bow and arrow that was it” and others chime in, “yeah I want to get into that. They know it’s a horrible prolong death but now these sickos are coming to our neighborhood talking about how “great” bowhunters are because they can kill quietly, well it’s not “quietly” for the animals as they chase down the animals after waiting 30-45 min to bleed to death, choke on their own blood, die in their own poison but it’s “yahoo” for the psychopaths. Bowhunting is not a “cheap sport” so they can take their “well the economy is bad yadi yadi and stick it where the sun don’t shine. They use bows and arrow because they want to feel they “belong” to something even if it’s a sickening way to kill an animal but at least they can brag with other psychos.. Yes bowhunting is getting more popular then shotgun and it’s costly. The days of shotgun for food on the plate is over. They just love to use the “we eat the meat” to justify this cruelty. Or to put the fake halo over their heads with their “we help feed the hungry’ but what are they giving to the poor?. There are all kinds of diseases and most of the meat is not even USDA approved. Just the hunter checks them, “ok, it’s good’ especially when it comes to gut shot deer. Or the “shoot a doe, own a buck” deal. In NJ in Morris County alone 5 wildlife refuge is a hunting spot. Then in California the Fish and Games wants to turn part of 1 million acre into a killing field. Will the animals ever have peace?, we are supposed to be “under God” , did God not say “thou shalt not kill”? The places where there is the most religious freaks have the most hunting. What a blasphemy to Jesus when he spoke of peace, gentle, mercy but America is becoming one big pot of merciless beings with no compassion who just get joy out of killing. They all have the serial killers profile, perhaps they have sport hunting is because they know there isn’t enough prison so they give out license to these deranged nuts to kill for “fun”. Being that bows and arrow are so quiet who knows where these sickos will be lurking killing your dogs and cat (it has happened plenty times). Why in some state if the dog or cat is loose even with tags on and “interferes” with their “wildlife management” they can shoot to kill. Why should hunters who are such a minority dictates what happens to our wildlife. Plus they are coming up with more gruesome ways to kill animals. We the non-killers want to walk in our parks and forest without the fear of bullet or arrow hitting me. I don’t want to be around psychopath because once you bring them into your town you will have lowlifes and poachers and even felons who can purchase a license to kill deer that means more psychopaths everywhere carrying dangerous weapons. Give us non-killers the right to live in peace and harmony with the wildlife.

    Dear Senators Markey and Warren,

There are some things we don’t get a second chance at. Preserving ecological integrity in places that we have set aside for wildlife and humans to be free from killing, to remain wild and unmolested, falls into that category. The threats our wildlife face come from many directions, loss of habitat, trophy hunters, poaching, conflicts with humans and or human-based activities, as well as the hardships of living in the wild as predator or prey. The last thing we need right now is to open our national parks or wilderness areas that do not allow hunting, to more killing. Many of our public lands are already minefields for wildlife and people, as well as our pets, laid with traps and snares that most other civilized countries have already outlawed.
In this world of Internet access and social media we see evidence of wildlife abuse daily. Trappers boast online about littering public lands with traps and snares, hunters poach wild animals like wolves and promote sss (shoot shovel and shut up) or may brag about gut shooting an animal to make it suffer and avoid having to claim it as a kill. Often wolves, coyotes and other predators take the worst abuses. It’s become “sporting” to torture and maim wildlife. In the best of circumstances, most wildlife spend 6-9 months a year dodging bait traps, bullets, arrows, snares, traps, cable restraints, poisons or being chased down by packs of dogs. Our national wilderness and public areas should provide some refuge for wildlife, and for the majority of Americans who do not agree with this nonstop culture of killing.
In addition to opening up our wilderness to more pressure from hunting, each new version of the “sportsman heritage act” attempts to eviscerate or eliminate environmental protections or expand consumptive or disrupting uses of public lands. In the last version of the euphemistically entitled sportsman act, the act sought to prevent NEPA review of the effects of hunting on non-target species and their habitats and prevent EPA regulations on lead ammunition. This newest version again seeks to impose permanent restrictions on the ability of regulatory agencies to control lead ammunition, a problem that is causing great damage to ecosystems and the wildlife that rely on healthy habitats. It’s unconscionable to allow this bill or any version of it to pass.
Globally humans are squandering natural resources with lightning speed and with little regard for the future. This bill and its former versions are backed by lobbyists like the NRA, Safari Club International and other special interest groups that, if left to their own, will turn our public lands into hunting zoos. Many if not most Americans, do not support trophy hunting. We do not want to have our public lands and wilderness turned into killing fields to satisfy people who want to kill for fun. When you get right down to it that’s what trophy hunting is. The Sportsman Act is not designed to protect a dying culture of hunter gatherers rather its an ill-concealed attempt to expand an unsustainable and often inhumane “pastime” or “sport” that revolves around killing wildlife.
I believe that this bill poses a significant threat to our wildlife and wilderness. Furthermore, the special interests that back this bill are also the same obstructionists that oppose all attempts to prevent any logical forms of gun control. If these same people can not be trusted to stand with the majority of Americans who want to see reasonable gun control laws enacted they certainly can not be allowed to expand their killing grounds into public and wilderness areas nor can they be allowed to prohibit restrictions on lead ammunition or to turn wilderness into shooting ranges. I am vehemently opposed to this legislation and urge you to vote against it in total.

  8. Please anyone wanting to use all or parts of my letter to send to their own senators do so. and thank you Jim for posting about this proposed bill and the need to contact our legislators to slam it down!
