Guest Rant: It’s a Fucked Up World, Thanks to Humans

by Stephanie Theisen

Human society is doomed, I have come to that conclusion after many years, at least a couple of decades of watching the destruction of our planet for material objects, the extinction of Species because of human encroachment, overpopulation, development, invading and destroying natural habitats of other Earthlings with roads, housing tracts, malls, big box stores, mining, drilling, fracking, nuclear power, deforestation, hunting, over fishing our precious oceans & filling them with garbage, oil & radiation, poisoning our water supply & factory farming, all in the pursuit of money, cash, greed, redundancy intentional. I listen to people’s indifference, notice their apathy, lack of compassion for any other earthlings but their own, not even their own in many instances. Humans are famous for worshipping idols, royalty & celebrities, I find that repugnant, embarrassing & demeaning…. I wish humans would worship Mother Earth & Nature the way they do such superfluous shit as material possessions & phony icons, superstars, kings, queens etc….. Capitalism has peaked, we really can’t rape the planet any further without the imminent collapse of everything that keeps us alive. Mother Nature is going to vaccinate herself, it isn’t going to be pleasant. We are a burden, a cancer, a virus on this planet, we are going to lose if humanity does not wake up out of their consumer induced comas. Oh never mind, I’m watching my taped episode of entertainment tonight! Beyonce was spotted in a restaurant draped in the fur of 3 dozen murdered animals stuffing her pie hole with foie gras & roasted duck! She is my IDOL, love her! She is such a ruthless, vapid cunt, but I just love her music & she is soooo pretty, wanna be just like her!

  1. I agree very strongly with this post. David Attenborough has said a number of times, humans are a plague on the earth–there are just too many of us and we are taking the animals land, hides and lives. Most of us think we are better than animals and that they are worth less-with that attitude we will not change the world. It needs to start in schools–all schools even in poorer nations need to be taught to honour wildlife and nature. There needs to be a big push in Africa and other countries towards birth control to both relieve their poverty and save wildlife and the land that would be lost. I believe Mother Nature will hit back and kill off million of humans–we are like rats, destructive and overpopulated spreading the disease of consumerism. To be fair many of the inventions have been made with the best of intentions to make our lives easier and healthier, they never realised it would destroy the earth.

  2. Stephanie, extremely well said.
I have strongly believed in everything that you have stated since I was 11 years old, riding in the car with my family, north towards NYC, on the NJ Turnpike, past all of the oil refineries, the noxious plumes of toxic air and green, oily sheen on the surface of the adjacent watershed/wetlands, clearly visible. It was the first time I ever saw an egret and it was covered in this toxic waste.
I remember asking my parents how people could have let this happen and they just shrugged. The air was so bad that even though we did not have air conditioning in the car, we kept the windows rolled up, in 90 degree heat and humidity. (I then vowed to move far away when I grew up, naively thinking this was only a NY/NJ thing. I moved to Portland, Oregon, 22 years ago and have only returned to the East Coast to visit family 5 times)
At that moment, (I still remember it so clearly and I am in my 50’s), I felt such utter shame, frustration and rage, that amid the river of tears streaming down my cheeks, I announced to my family that day, that we as a species did not deserve to live on this planet. My parents hardly even responded…too involved with themselves to even care.
Decades later, I have remembered the spiritual awakening of that moment very clearly. My entire life has been dedicated to keeping my eyes open and opening the eyes of others, along with fearlessly advocating for all animals and the environment. Along the way, I have met many, many like-minded individuals, that have somewhat renewed my faith in the potential “goodness” of the human race. Unfortunately, we are far outnumbered by those pursuing material gain at the cost of everything else. We can only hope that our outspokenness, and hopefully, more people “waking up” as a result, will increase our numbers so that we can eventually (if we survive that long) be the vocal majority in this country and across the entire world and create the change we seek. Never give up – never stop writing/talking about this and take every opportunity to change the world, one simple act at a time. It is amazing what each of us can achieve this way and how many others we can affect by doing it.

  3. it is so easy to get very very sad … and i agree, humans in general are a plague, and seemingly less and less the “custodians” and “guardians” it is our warrant and charge to be.

  4. sorry Vickie, I agree with your comment except for your slam against rats. Rats are animals who also have been screwed over by humans-checkout your experimental/testing labs and see who is used. Its easy to fall into the anthropocentric use of animals to describe negative HUMAN traits.
