Sab All Hunting, Not Just the Wolf Hunt

It never pays to procrastinate. Although I re-blogged Earth First’s “Manual for Sabotaging Wolf Hunts” a few days ago, I just now read the first speciesist lines of its pro-hunting introduction: “Lets shoot straight right from the start. We are hunters and proud of it.” (What part of the universal truth, that hunters are psychopaths and total scumbags, does EF fail to understand?) Their inconsistent attitude that it’s ok to hunt other species besides wolves prevents me from spreading the word about their manual any further.

It’s always sad when good-hearted people try to align themselves with their enemies and take on their ugly traits in order to boost the popularity of their cause. While it may seem like fun to emulate Elmers, when it comes right down to it, hating and killing wolves is a natural component of the redneck hunter’s credo. Rare is the hunter out to get “his” deer—whether for the purpose of subsistence, sport or trophy hunting—that doesn’t eventually resent the competition from natural predators.

Species like deer, moose, elk or feral hogs are every bit as sentient, and can experience fear and pain in the same way, as wolves. All animals value their lives; the frivolous taking of an innocent life is not something to be proud of. If we modern humans (7 billion and counting) can lead healthier lives without killing and consuming animal flesh, and thereby messing with the food chain, why should we inject ourselves into natures’ intricate web by playing top predator?

Remember, every grazer or browser we claim for ourselves is one less for the wolves who really need them.

  1. When I posted the “Animal Defense” chapter from the book “Ecodefense,” (https://sites.google.com/site/pullingforlife/articles-1/animal-defense), I had to apologize for the revolting first line: “I’ll admit it right out front: I am a hunter and proud of it.” But the information therein was too valuable to ignore. However, I agree with you that it’s a slippery slope we get on when we consort with the psychopathic enemy and I support your decision to refuse to publicize the manual further. Probably the best thing to do when we run into these problems is to take out the useful information, paraphrase it, and post it that way.

  2. I’m currently reading a book that says 1 in 25 people is a textbook psychopath. That’s pretty f*cking scary! Yikes! That’s too many for my comfort level. Now imagine those 1 in 25 with guns (or whatever) killing innocent animals. The animals — all of them, are royally f*cked!

      • The is called: Women Who Love Psychopaths by Sandra Brown, M.A. I should also mention the author clearly states not all psychopaths commit murder (in other words, not all textbook psychopaths are like Ted Bundy), some never resort to violence, but even still 1 in 25 is to close for comfort, especially when you take into considerate the % that do commit murder (which means they practiced on animals). I’m not articulating myself very well here but the book is fascinating.

  3. I noticed that, but figured good advice is good advice, no matter who is giving it. I do understand your reluctance to promote them though. Thanks, as always.

  4. I can sure incorporate their tactics into protecting all wildlife. I have to admit, the manual did cheer me up–there are very clearly a bunch of us who are getting specific on how to interrupt hunting and trapping. Thanks for posting, Jim, and thanks for the caveat!

  5. Why, I wonder, are the educated folks that read this blog ‘surprised’ that 1/25 are psychopaths? That’s 4%, they do have guns, and we call them “hunters.” That does not mean all hunters are psychopaths, as FHWAR 2011 shows the age 16+ US population as 239,313,000 and the hunting population as 13,674,000 which is 5.7%.

  6. I read and yeah the first part makes my blood boil to lethal levels, but everything else I can resonate with. I don’t support the writers themselves, I support the guide and information.
