(Reuters) – A 14-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed two men at a remote deer hunting cabin in northeastern Oregon, authorities said Thursday, before accidentally shooting himself in the leg while attempting to flee.

Grant County Sheriff’s deputies went to the private camp outside the town of Granite early Thursday morning and found two men dead and1237908_417630058349401_880655430_n the boy duct-taped to a chair by another camp occupant, Sheriff Glenn Palmer said in a written statement.

Both the 14-year-old and the victims, aged 43 and 64, were from the Baker City area of Oregon. The victims’ names were not released pending notification of their families, the statement said, and the boy’s name was withheld due to his age.

According to the sheriff’s statement, the boy fled the cabin on foot after shooting the two men, then accidentally shot himself in the leg. He returned to the cabin to plead for help, the statement said, and was held at gunpoint and then duct-taped by the other occupant to a chair until police arrived.

The owner of the cabin fled the scene after the shooting and called police, the statement said.

After being treated at a local hospital, the boy was flown to the St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, for further treatment. His condition was not immediately available.

State and local police are investigating the shooting, the statement said.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings declined to comment on the case. The Grant County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

  1. Of course like 99.999% of 14 year olds he will have played videogames in some form or another so they’ll blame those instead.

  2. Too weird. Almost wonder if there wasn’t something going on with those two men, could have been some kind of sexual abuse that would explain the killings. Of course, it could be that the boy was just that violent.

      • The story is not well-written. It appears the boy, who probably feared for his life, allegedly shot the two men; that’s when the owner of the alleged cabin left to call the police. After the fearful boy left, the owner returned to the cabin, and shortly thereafter the boy returned.

Or, given the boy was duct-taped to a chair, the three perverted men got into an argument over who got the boy, the owner’s gun went off, wounding the boy, the owner then shot the two men, worked out his story, and called the cops.

Or, the four were enjoying a quiet game of Boner Brother’s “Government Shutdown,” when a ravenous wolf entered the cabin. As one of the men reached for a weapon, it accidentally discharged in full-auto mode, killing the two alleged men, and wounding the alleged boy. The alleged owner taped the boy to the alleged chair to keep him from bleeding out, and they concocted their story which would carry less of a penalty than shooting at a protected wolf and having wolf-humpers screaming for retribution.

  3. At first, I was giggling to the fact that the child did this, and then I realized there could be more to the story, perhaps these men were sexually abusing the boy. You have to realize any one who would purposely kill docile innocent animals have a sociopathic foundation, I could imagine sexual abuse towards children or animals would be a possibility for any hunter.

  4. It would be nice if someone put a chemical in the water bottles of hunters so they went nuts and shot each other. Only in a sci-fi eco-movie, I guess.

  5. Yes let’s wait for the whole story. But it seems lately that many kids are being wounded or killed in hunting accidents or simply shooting a playmate or innocent bystander with guns left loaded and accessible in the home. Someone above mentioned video games and I strongly believe that in some way there’s a connection. The last few mass shootings have revealed through friends or neighbors that the perpetrator was addicted to, or at least “expert” at cyber killing. Desensitizing violence in any form is dangerous but we, as a society, do it all the time through games and media. Children of hunters are encouraged to get out and kill that first animal at an early age…usually about the time they’re learning to actually appreciate wildlife and nature. Suddenly their role model is telling them “it’s just an animal…shoot it”. There are countless videos of dads grinning proudly while his kid is standing with tears in his eyes over his first deer kill. One video actually has the guy telling his girl that she’s taken the deer to a “better place where he’s really happy”. Damn deer was pretty happy running around in the woods until they came along. These people are the ones that need to experience a better life. They have lessened the significance of life and any life, human or otherwise, should be regarded with respect.

  6. Actually my comments regarding video games where more to do with them being used as a scapegoat to avoid dealing with the real issues. The most popular of “cyber killing” games, the Call of Dutys and the Grand Theft Autos etc are every bit as popular here in Europe as they are in the US and we have NOWHERE NEAR the kind of gun violence we hear about routinely from the states.
