Now The Weather Channel is Promoting Hunting!

When did the phrase “How’s the weather” become synonomous with “Have you killed anything today?” Ever since the Weather Channel got into the act of promoting hunting, along with Time Magazine, the History Channel, Discover, etc., etc. Where’s it all going to end?

When I lived beyond a snow covered road in the North Cascades, the U.S. Forest Service decided to put in a snowmobile snow park near my cabin. I objected, of course, and when a snowmobile enthusiast asked me why I told him because the area will soon become overwhelmed by snowmobiles. He said, “If it gets that busy with snowmobilers, I’ll sell quit sledding.”

That scenario parallels the ongoing promotion of hunting. How many hunters will become frustrated and disillusioned with hunting when it gets so popular no one can stand it anymore?

  1. Jim, please tell me you are not surprised!
America is run by the corporations, for the corporations, who are run mainly by sociopathic personality types, who make up most of the trophy hunter crowd. It’s all about greed. The weather channel has sucked for a long time. I am getting ready to dump direct tv and go back to rabbit ears.
Folks, if you want to get your weather, it’s free via weather.gov or if you like weather, you can even get training free to be a spotter for your local NOAA site! No need to feed the greed!
Jim, the world is closing in on all of us. War is an addiction. No matter if it is human vs. human, human vs. creature or domestic violence. There is not enough ‘space’ for everyone. Please remind everyone the public comment period is ending Dec. 17 for Wolf de-listing from the ESA. Please post links to the petitions and phone contact info for Dan Ashe, Sally Jewell, and President Obama. Wolves are essential to restoration of our wild places. Extinction is forever and now it is critical to fight before no place in America is safe for them! Or people, either! Stop the violence addiction. Save the creatures.

  2. I remember when TWC kicked ass with shows like Storm Stories. I was obsessed with storms and tornadoes growing up and TWC used to be my one stop fix for severe weather.

    • Dywane, me, too! I used to go out photographing severe weather. My son, Fred is more excited by the idea than taking chances but we are both spotters. He just would rather shoot video from within the van. He yells at me to get back inside! Arthritis takes the fun out of it now but I got some great footage of a wind sheer in front of a storm that formed a tornado last Summer. And a wicked lightening storm late in this past Summer. Did you know you can take an old black and white tv and tune it in to the lowest channel without a station and just leave it plugged in and when the tornado gets close, it makes the screen brighten and the sound crackle with static energy? That is an old trick I used to use out on the front range in Colorado long before there was any warning systems or accurate forecasts. In the movie ‘Twister’, they show the Aunt with a black and white tv with rabbit ears, using that method but they did not explain why she did it. It was one of thefew things they got right in the movie. Gas is too expensive to go out chasing storms now. So I just scout great spots and try to predict where, locally, I can watch from. Cell phones make it safer now with radar. Have fun and stay safe. 🙂
