Expressing My Freedom of Speech

My initial, instinctive reaction to the annoying nuisance known as Duck Dynasty was to just ignore them and they’ll go away. Well, it looks like they might go away even sooner than I’d expected, based on their new statement.

While it speaks volumes on the values and priorities of our society that they are being forced out of show business because of vile and degrading remarks about a group of people—rather than the fact that the entire premise of their program is based on murdering other sentient beings for fun—I’m glad to see them go no matter the reason…

The Robertson* Family Official Statement

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate. We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.

I don’t know, but I’d think the gay community would be pretty offended by being called sinners by an ex-addict/alcoholic who became a multi-millionaire through selling gadgets designed solely to lure unsuspecting birds to their deaths. Seems pretty goddamn preachy and self-righteous coming from a bunch of yahoos who live only to destroy God’s creatures.

If any of this seems harsh, I’m just expressing my constitutionally protected freedom of speech.

*Although my last name is Robertson, I’m not one of them. More on that here: https://exposingthebiggame.wordpress.com/2013/09/10/im-not-one-of-those-duck-dynasty-douchebags/

  1. Well said! ‘Reality’ television is a pet peeve of mine, but the fact that these backward hillbillies are being celebrated really hits a nerve with me. (Apparently it’s okay to slaughter for sport as long as you get your a$$ in the pew on Sundays). WWJD, indeed.
Thank you for another spot-on post, I’m glad to have run across your blog. 🙂

  2. Those that support this homophobic bigot are telling the world, “I think it’s just fine to be a homophobic bigot”. Gotta wonder how many of his supporters are themselves homophobic bigots?

    • Homophobic bigot he may well be, but I think this view misses the bigger point. On any rational scale of evil, being a serial-killing, murderous white trash scumbag trumps uttering “insensitive” remarks about this or that sexual-orientation, ethnic, or religious group by about six orders of magnitude. The liberal-media firestorm over Phil Robertson’s crude remarks serves only to point up the utter hypocrisy and debased morality of those who endlessly proclaim their devotion to defending the world’s underdogs while ignoring the plight of those that are the planet’s ultimate underdogs. Attacking Phil Robertson’s for his views on homosexuality is like going after the inventor of Zyklon-B because he accrued a large number of traffic tickets or didn’t like milk chocolate. Keeping the rights and wrongs of the world in perspective is the key to wisdom.

  3. Gee, if bigoted comments are a part of free speech then where was all the outrage when Paula Zahn was fired? But because some hairball animal killer is on a pedestal its okay for him to make bigoted remarks? Its amazing how a TV network can take a crappy P.O.S reality show, throw some money around and hype it up in the media and all the dumb asses all of a sudden become instant fans of it! People in the 21st Century are so braindead and stupid! I have seen people liking Duck Dynasty and not even knowing exactly why they like it! Bunch of brainwashed zombies they are! Then you have the people who grow the beards and try to emulate the stars of this lowlife show and then the idiots who go completely psycho when anyone voices their disgust and dislike for Duck Dynasty. So much for free speech. I guess that free speech is only supposed to apply to them and their little double standards. I swear Duck Dynasty fans and supporters are even more psychotic than the Justin Beiber fans!

  5. This whole trend of “Hillbilly Chic” (The french word; meaning stylish or smart, not the baby bird) is shitty and dangerous on many fronts. I know this very well because I come from hillbillies. Hillbillies are, and will always be, stupid.

So now it’s cool to be stupid.

Particularly irksome is that these red-neck retards pass their fear of deductive reasoning onto the kids. This plays so well into the hands of the republican (that was intentional, I don’t think they even deserve a capital ‘R’) oligarchs, theocrats and carpetbaggers that don’t give a fuck about our environment. (Rand Paul, I’m looking in your direction…)

The simple science plainly shows that we don’t need to hunt, don’t need to eat meat, dairy, etc.** and that these learned behaviors based on “Man’s Dominion over the Animals” (Genesis 1:26) are clearly fucking over our eco-systems. Thank you, big book of fairy tales! Personally, I think their infantile, Id driven need to kill and eat everything is spiritually degenerative. Sadly, it seems that the lower the IQ the higher the sperm count.

Whew- OK, after that rant, everybody’s getting books for the holidays. “NO TOYS FOR YOU! GO READ YOUR UPTON SINCLAIR GODDAMNIT!!”

“The loss of recognition for artists, thinkers and scientists has
impoverished our culture in innumerable ways, but let me mention one.
When virtually all of a culture’s celebrated figures are in sports or
entertainment, how few possible role models we offer the young. There
are so many other ways to lead a successful and meaningful life that
are not denominated by money or fame. Adult life begins in a child’s
imagination, and we’ve relinquished that imagination to the marketplace.”

**Been total vegan for almost four months now! Feeling great, and despite a ridiculous amount of stress in my life, I swear I’m sharper, lighter on my feet and… drumroll… I don’t snore anymore.
